Lithium combustion

Lithium ignites when heated with a propane torch, burning vigorously with a red flame (white when intense). White fumes of lithium oxide are produced, and a white ash remains. Unfortunately, the selenium adhering to the other side of the burning dish vaporized, forming a stain on the floor and a horrible smell in the air.
